Our Story
Fresh Direct was founded by Ilze Basson, whose roots in the flower industry run deep. Growing up on a flower farm, she developed a natural love for flowers, not just for their beauty, but for the care, patience and hard work behind every stem.
But alongside that, she also saw the challenges. Too often, locally grown, high-quality flowers struggled to reach the market. Farmers faced long supply chains, limited access to buyers and unnecessary barriers that made it difficult for their product to compete with imported flowers.
Fresh Direct was created to change that.
By connecting farms directly to florists, event designers and retailers, Ilze built a business that supports both sides of the industry, giving growers a clearer path to market, and customers access to fresher, better-quality flowers.
